Drug cash discovered throughout Letterkenny raids to go to native charities

Donegal-based charities are set to learn from hundreds of euro seized in a medicine raid in Letterkenny.

A District Courtroom Choose has ordered that €5,900 present in a Matrix DVD field be given to St Vincent de Paul.

Choose Éiteáin Cunningham made the order at Monday’s sitting of Letterkenny District Courtroom.

The cash was discovered throughout a Garda raid below the Misuse of Medicine Act on the residence of Brian Benson at The Elms, Letterkenny, on Might 11, 2018.

Sergeant Jim Collins informed the courtroom that Benson’s authorized consultant had not sought a return of the cash,

Sergeant Collins sought the forfeiture of the cash and requested that or not it’s given to charity.

Choose Cunningham directed that the funds be given to the Letterkenny department of St Vincent de Paul.

An additional €370 discovered when Gardai swooped on Benson’s house is to be given to the Donegal Hospice.

In October 2022, Benson was given a two-month jail sentence, which was suspended for 12 months for the possession of hashish for the aim of promoting or supplying it to others.

An additional sum of €325 seized in a separate medicine raid, was directed to the Donegal Hospice by Choose Cunningham. Sergeant Collins mentioned that the cash was believed to have originated from the sale or provide of medication.
